SKILLS

My lecturer today brought up a very good point to make me question what have I been doing for the past 4 years of my life in college. He asked me, what are your set of skills you're bringing to your desired choice of workplace ? I actually have no idea.

As an Artist, I am Professionally a Song-Writer, a Rapper, an announcer, and handle businesses inside Indonesia's Music Industry, but as a student, I am studying human resource management, which usually leads to jobs on the corporate side of life. Even though I have no interest in working for corporations (except google or Mc Graw hill, hire me please), it gets me thinking in what set of skills have I acquired during my 4 years in college that is really relevant to my make believe corporate Job.

As students of business or management, I don't think Im the only one with this question, since most people I meet actually learn their set of skills on the job, and not from a textbook or a classroom. Their skills are either self-taught or is given inside training programs to get them ready for the job. In my field of study it seems like we are given concepts and theories from papers and essays by great people, but is given no particular set of skills.

From Writing business proposals to Analytical thinking, these skills are not taught in classrooms, rather then inside Student Organizations or Extracurricular Activities. In my personal experience, I learned most of my Writing and soft-skills while I was working on music. Thus it seems your bachelors degrees are only a chain of concepts that has to be put to practice.

So I think Im Blogging again......At least I can add some creative writing to my set of skills.

You'll be hearing from me soon.
